CBCT 3D Imaging

Advanced, Ultra-Low Dose Technology for Safer, More Precise Care

At Bay Area Dental Airway & Sleep, Dr. Weisman believes that better information leads to better outcomes. That’s why our office has invested in a state-of-the-art Planmeca 3D CBCT imaging system, one of the most advanced and lowest radiation options available in dentistry today.

This technology allows us to gather detailed diagnostic information while prioritizing patient safety and comfort. In fact, Bay Area Dental Airway & Sleep is a Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ certified practice, meaning we meet strict standards for minimizing radiation exposure.

Seeing More With 3D Imaging

Unlike traditional two-dimensional X-rays, CBCT imaging provides a full three-dimensional view of your teeth, jaw, airway, and surrounding structures. These images can be enlarged, rotated, and viewed from any angle, revealing details that simply aren’t visible on standard X-rays.

For Dr. Weisman, this level of clarity allows for more accurate diagnoses, better treatment planning, and greater predictability especially in complex, airway focused, or growth related cases.

Why Ultra-Low Dose Matters

Radiation exposure is a common concern for patients and families. Our CBCT system is designed to keep exposure as low as possible while still delivering highly detailed images. The technology:

  • Uses significantly less radiation than traditional medical CT scans

  • Adjusts exposure based on the specific area being imaged

  • Follows the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable)

This makes CBCT imaging a safer option for both children and adults when clinically necessary.

Choose Planmeca Ultra Low Dose™ technology.

Choose less radiation and more dentistry.

How CBCT Supports Your Care

CBCT imaging plays an important role in evaluating and planning treatment for:

Airway and breathing concerns

Sleep related breathing disorders

Orthodontic growth and development

Jaw joint (TMJ) evaluation

Impacted teeth and complex dental cases

By seeing structures in 3D, Dr. Weisman can plan care with greater precision, anticipate challenges, and often avoid surprises during treatment.

Technology That Supports Better Decisions

Our CBCT technology allows us to make better-informed decisions, personalize treatment plans, and clearly explain findings to you using visual 3D images. Patients often tell us they appreciate being able to see and understand their diagnosis rather than relying on guesswork.

General Questions asked at Bay Area Dental, Airway & Sleep

CBCT Scan FAQs

Yes. Our CBCT scanner uses ultra-low dose radiation, significantly less than traditional medical CT scans. The system automatically adjusts exposure to the smallest amount needed while still delivering highly accurate images.

The radiation dose from our CBCT scan is comparable to, and often lower than, a full series of traditional dental X-rays. We follow the ALARA principle, meaning radiation exposure is kept as low as reasonably achievable.

Yes. CBCT imaging can be safely used for children when clinically necessary. Our system allows us to limit the scan area and radiation dose, making it appropriate for growth, airway, and orthodontic evaluations in younger patients.

Traditional X-rays show flat, two-dimensional images. A CBCT scan provides a full 3D view of teeth, bone, airway, and surrounding structures, which is essential for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning in complex or airway-related cases.

Not at all. The scan is quick, painless, and non-invasive. There’s no special preparation needed, and the entire process takes only a few seconds.

Coverage varies by insurance provider and by the reason for the scan. Our team is happy to help review your benefits and answer any questions about coverage before imaging is performed.

Results are available immediately. Because the scan is done in-office, your doctor can review the images with you right away and explain what they see using the 3D visuals.

We invested in one of the most advanced CBCT systems available because it allows us to combine exceptional image quality with ultra-low radiation exposure, supporting safer and more precise care for our patients.

If you have questions about our CBCT technology or whether it’s appropriate for your care, our team is always happy to help.
